We empower young women by providing access to education, family planning, high-quality healthcare and clean water. Equipped with these tools, they can create a better future for themselves, their families and the environment.

Giving Girls Control Over Their Health and Learning is the Answer

Healthy habitats require healthy communities, and key to keeping communities healthy is the empowerment of women and girls. Girls living in communities in the Jane Goodall Institute’s target areas are often prevented from finishing their education, if they get to start at all. This is a problem that not only affects the girls, but also their communities, their future families, and the environment around them.

JGI knows that making it possible for girls to take control of their own future through greater access to education and healthcare not only improves their wellbeing, but it also reduces pressure on natural resources as well, and helps communities thrive. JGI’s programs help girls stay in school by offering scholarships, providing them with sanitary supplies, creating a peer support network, and ensuring that girls have access to information about their health so that they have the tools to make important decisions about family planning and their lives.

Improving Life Through Holistic Health and Education

Additionally, JGI’s community-centered health projects diminish disease transmission among species, and help improve overall community health. Our health-related projects include protecting watersheds, establishing centrally located sources for potable water, increasing access to immunisations, installing safer and more efficient wood-burning stoves and providing access to solar lamps.

By aiding communities in improving their health care, education, gender equality and economic opportunities, we help to improve the standard of living and wellness, while increasing willingness and opportunities to focus outside of personal, immediate needs and on the community’s need for future sustainability. Promoting sustainable practices and projects provides people with the knowledge that protecting their environment promotes their own well-being and the long-term sustainability of their community and environment.
