In order for eveyone to be able to make a difference sometimes some need a little support to be able to join in. JGI NZ offers some mini-grants where there is a need and a passion to be involved in Roots & Shoots. The mini grants can be used to purchase equipment or plants or materials required to make a Roots & Shoots project come togther. If you are a school or group in need and with a passion to make a difference just follow the simple steps below.

Step 1

Create a community map

Visit the Roots &Shoots Map It page for assistance in mapping activities

Step 2

30 minutes (or more)

Use your map to identify a community consevation project that could positively impact animals, people and the environment

Already involved in a project? Use your map to reflect on the impacts of your existing project

Step 3

30 minutes (or more)

Apply for your mini-grant to support your project!

Mini-grants are awarded in the amount of a $200 gift card

To be eligible for a Roots & Shoots mini-grant you must:

  • Reside in New Zealand.
  • Be a registered member of Roots & Shoots in New Zealand.

Memorandum of understanding with mini-grant recipients

The goal of participation in the JGI NZ Roots & Shoots programme is to help prepare young people in our communities for success by empowering them to get involved and make positive change happen for the environment, animals and the human community.

By accepting funds from Roots & Shoots, the recipient agrees:

  • To become a Roots & Shoots member.
  • To map their community with their students and submit a Roots & Shoots campaign idea by a provided deadline.
  • To spend the grant on only items benefiting their Roots & Shoots campaign
  • To submit their final campaign description by a provided deadline.
  • To provided their campaign details to JGI NZ via info@janegoodall.org.nz
  • To participate in the programme surveys for the continued growth of the programme.
