SUSTAINABILITY HELPS COMMUNITIES HARVEST OPPORTUNITY

JGI is committed to improving sustainable livelihoods for the communities living around important chimpanzee habitat. As part of our Gombe Masito-Ugalla conservation program, we are supporting local coffee farmers through the Kanyovu Coffee Cooperative Society. This consortium of 12 coffee collectives provides assistance to over 7,600 farmers.

JGI shares technical knowledge of farming skills like farm management and post-harvest processing aimed at improving the quality and quantity of produced crops. By teaching farmers how to maximise yields and profit from their land, we are reducing the strain on surrounding forests and dependence on economic activities that cause human-animal conflict.

By focusing on the specific needs of the places essential for conservation and people we partner with, we’re able to make meaningful impact that has local ownership and a sustainable future.
