Roots & Shoots Education Coordinator

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots (R&S) is a programme that empowers young people and equips them with the tools, motivation and support they need to address the problems that matter to them most. We are looking for motivated, focused and hard working volunteer to join JGI NZ to help build partnerships and outreach, and provide guidance, with organisations and community groups.

  • Location: Wellington
  • 10 hrs/week

About Roots & Shoots
R&S is a global network of young people empowered and inspired to take action to improve our world. It is a youth-led community action movement that is making a difference in almost 100 countries. R&S builds on Dr. Jane’s vision of creating community-based solutions to big challenges. All around the world, young people are exploring problems in their communities affecting Animals, People and the Environment (APE), brainstorming solutions and creating projects that help to solve the problems. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of R&S’s strategy and growth
  • Develop relationships and support educational institutes to undertake the R&S programme
  • Provide leadership for R&S staff, including R&S Regional Coordinators, and volunteers and individuals engaged with the programme
  • Monitor and evaluate R&S projects as required.
  • Personnel management
  • Financial management
  • Profile and brand management
  • Board communications
  • External communications on the R&S programme and JGI programmes and campaigns

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be postive, proactive with great personal drive
  • Knowledge and genuine interest in the goals, objectives and programmes of JGI NZ is essential
  • Educational experience, and knowledge of the NZ curriculum an advantage
  • Experience in writing communications material, including internal reports
  • Confident and experienced in developing internal and external relations
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills
  • Effective IT skills
  • Well organised and self-motivating
  • Previous experience in people management role
  • Able to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Strong organisational and time management skills combined and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Highly motivated and adaptable with great initiative and compassionate.

Supporter Relations Officer

  • Location: Wellington
  • 2 hrs/day

About the Role
We are seeking a brilliant Supporter Relations Coordinator to join our team to grow the vision of JGI NZ and contribute to inspiring actions that connect people with animals and our shared environment. To be successful you will have excellent communication skills and experience raising funds and awareness for charitable organisations.

As the Supporter Relations Coordinator, you will need to develop an organisation-wide communications strategy and execute it across all platforms, online, via email and print. You will also be responsible for content production across these channels, media releases, marketing materials, newsletters and fundraising appeals with the aim of growing our database and increasing revenue.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Producing national fundraising appeals (acquisition and retention) to generate substantial income and contributing to overall fundraising strategy
  • Developing a communications strategy (including editorial calendar) and executing across multiple channels (e.g. social media, direct communications, web marketing, e-communications, print, media)
  • Creating content and collateral for use across multiple channels (copy, graphics, video)
  • Developing a database strategy and managing the database and all fundraising and communications records
  • Writing and planning monthly e-newsletters
  • Developing ideas and campaigns for list building
  • Collaborating with external agencies
  • Coordinating logistics for non-tour related fundraising events

Skills and Experience:

  • Solid (3+ years) communications and fundraising experience (including an understanding of the donor journey)
  • A personal interest in animal welfare, environmental conservation and community education and action
  • Graphic design skills (e.g. Canva) with a strong sense of aesthetic and design
  • An understanding of social media trends
  • Wide experience with various tech platforms or willingness to learn
  • Excellent attention to detail and exceptional writing skills
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and enthusiasm for working as part of a small, committed team
  • A commitment to achieving results
  • Strong organisational and time management skills combined and ability to manage multiple task
  • Highly motivated and adaptable with great initiative and compassionate.

Administrative Officer

About the Role

You will assist and support the CEO and Board of Directors. You will manage a range of financial, recording keeping and administrative support tasks. To be successful you will be organised, enthusiastic and have the ability to manage time and priorities effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial and other records
  • Organise files and filing systems (hard-copy and cloud based)
  • Manage database (e.g. supporters, volunteers)
  • Mange HR requirements
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors

Skills and Experience:

  • Bookkeeping skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • 2-3 years previous experience.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills combined and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Highly motivated and adaptable with great initiative and compassionate.
